In one of the lamps in our courtyard a hummingbird made its nest.

Nicaraguan Nature in the house

Also on the walls we saw several geckos.  This one was just a baby! I liked the sounds they made, like a cross between a cricket and a bird. Continue reading →

All aboard La Fierita

Boat ride

This is a boat ride we signed up for that went around the 365 isletas created by a Mombacho volanic eruption on the huge Lake Nicaragua. Some people live on Continue reading →

More Nica your way

Taxis are cheap here; 10 cordoba for a ride within the central part of Granda. That roughly equates to 42 cents US$. Funny thing, if two people get in to go to the same place it is 20 cordoba. They will also pick up multple fares, so you might ride with others if there's room. There seems to be a taxi sighting on each block walked, and a minute is way too long to have to wait to see one. The drivers use their own vehicles, and may spend their money on other things than updating their cars with nonessential items like properly functioning door handles or windows as you can see here. What you can't see is the dirtiness of the back seat, which prevented me from leaning back for this ride. Good thing the limits are not far, as cab rides are usually less than 5 minutes.

Uniquely Nicaraguan

This is the tile company we visited.  They laid a sampling of their tiles in front of the building here. One of the things I’ve had to deal with is Continue reading →

I'm enjoying my 1st Nicaraguan cocktail, officially the Macua (with the accent on the last a, making it seem like I'm really demanding when I ask for one)!

Another Day in Granada

My 1st drink in Granada.  The Macua is the Nicaraguan drink with lite rum from here with guayaba juice and orange juice.  The accent is on the last a, so it seems Continue reading →

A funny smartass waiter (likely owner as well as usually is the case here) giving me a hard time! This was the first place we went for breakfast and it was good. American style with Nicaraguan local food to ween me slowly. It cost about $3, includes fantastic Nicaragauan coffee, and tips are only 10% here.

More photos as demanded!

We have seen two demonstrations so far.  The first was here while we were eating.  Protesters walked down the street chanting.  We only saw part of the signage, but it Continue reading →
